Our mission

A Bristol where no one has to face hunger alone.

Rising living costs, low incomes and insecure work mean too many people in our city are having to choose between heating and eating. Food is about much more than survival – it’s about culture, connection and dignity.

Yaab Impact exists to make sure everyone in our communities can access healthy, affordable and culturally familiar food, in places where they feel welcomed and respected. We work alongside local residents, volunteers and partners to build a food system that is fairer and more resilient.

Our manifesto

We believe that access to good food is a basic right, not a privilege. Our work is shaped by a few simple commitments:

  • Dignity first: people are neighbours, not numbers.
  • Community led: we listen first and build with, not for.
  • Food justice: we tackle the causes of hunger, not just the symptoms.
  • Collaboration: we share knowledge, resources and power to make change last.

Every food parcel, community meal and workshop is a step towards a city where everyone can eat well and feel they belong.

What we do

Practical food support today, long-term change for tomorrow.

Yaab Impact connects surplus food, community spaces and local knowledge to support people in the short term and build a stronger local food system over time.

Community food projects

We help run and support community food initiatives – from food pantries and pop-up markets to solidarity veg and grocery schemes.

  • Low-cost and free food options
  • Surplus food redistributed locally
  • Partnerships with local suppliers and growers

Shared meals & warm spaces

Food tastes better together. We create welcoming spaces where people can share a hot meal, connect with neighbours and access support if needed.

  • Community meals and socials
  • School-holiday and out-of-term food
  • Warm, family-friendly spaces

Skills, growing & education

We support people to grow, cook and enjoy food with confidence – and to shape local food projects that reflect their cultures and tastes.

  • Cook-along sessions and recipe shares
  • Growing projects and food education
  • Peer learning and youth leadership

How we work

Compassionate, collaborative, rooted in community.

Yaab Impact is a Community Interest Company. Any surplus we create is reinvested into our work – supporting people who are most impacted by food insecurity and related challenges.

We work across neighbourhoods, supporting local groups, faith communities, schools and residents to strengthen what already exists and create new projects where there are gaps.

Compassionate Collaborative Inclusive Practical
  • Compassionate: wellbeing and dignity come first.
  • Collaborative: we bring people together to find solutions.
  • Inclusive: we celebrate cultures, languages and lived experience.
  • Evidence-led: we listen, learn and adapt based on what communities tell us.

We’re always looking for new partners – from local community leaders to businesses that want to share resources or volunteers.

Stories

Local people, real impact.

These short stories are examples of the kind of change Yaab Impact aims to support. Names and details can be adapted when you’re ready to add your own.

“I didn’t feel like I was asking for charity.”

A parent who visited one of our partner food projects told us that having choice, a warm welcome and time to sit and chat made all the difference. They left with food – and also with information about other support nearby.

Cooking together, learning together

At a community cook-along we brought together neighbours from different backgrounds to share recipes and tips for making the most of low-cost ingredients. People left with full containers, new ideas and new friendships.

Young people leading the way

Local young volunteers helped to organise a food collection at their college, sorting donations and supporting a pop-up pantry. They gained skills and confidence while helping to support families near where they live.
